If a letter is required for a visa application please check the requirements on the Danish Embassy website for your country and then email the ECOSS 2018 organisers with all the information required for us to provide you with an invitation letter.

Currency in Denmark

The currency in Denmark is the kroner. The exchange rates (July 2017) are:

  • 1 EUR ~ 7.5 Kr
  • 1 GBP ~ 8.5 Kr
  • 1 USD ~ 6.6 Kr

Most places in Denmark accept the major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard), however some smaller shops may only accept cash. Cash machines (ATMs) accepting major credit cards are located all around the city. 

Banks and currency exchange

Banks and exchange offices are located in the city centre close to the hotels.

Normal opening hours for banks are:

  • Mon-Wed, Fri: 10:00-16:00
  • Thurs: 10:00-16:30
  • Closed Saturday and Sundays

Electricity

Electricity in Denmark is 220V AC. Plugs are European standard with two round pins.

Shopping

Shops on the main pedestrian street in the centre of Aarhus are usually open Monday to Thursday from 09:30 to 17:30 and Fridays until 19:00. On Saturdays these shops generally close around 15:00. Selected department stores and shopping centres around Aarhus are open later.

Supermarkets are open on weekdays from 08:00-21:00 and weekends 08:00-18:00. Most shops accept all major credit cards, though small shops may only accept the local "Dankort" or cash. It is possible that a 3.75% fee will be charged if payment is made with a non-Danish credit card.

Dining out in Aarhus

Most restaurants in Aarhus are open from 11.30 am to midnight. However, hot meals are not normally served after 10 pm. Gratuities are included in the bill.

Taxis

Numerous taxi stands are located throughout Aarhus city centre. Hotel receptionists will be pleased to assist you.

Tipping

Gratuities is automatically included in all bills for service, meals etc. Tipping is not required.
