Allon Hochbaum

Allon Hochbaum is a Samueli Early Career Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science and the Department of Chemistry at the University of California, Irvine. He received a S.B. in Materials Science and Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and completed his Ph.D. in the Department of Chemistry at UC Berkeley studying electrical and thermal transport phenomena in semiconductor nanowires. He was a postdoctoral research fellow at Harvard University where his research explored bacterial community dynamics at interfaces.

Prof. Hochbaum is the recipient of the 3M Non-Tenured Faculty award, and the ACS (Division of Inorganic Chemistry) and AFOSR Young Investigator awards. His lab studies and designs electronically conductive natural and synthetic biomaterials, and seeks to understand and engineer chemical signaling pathways involved in bacterial community development and antibiotic tolerance using chemical and physical approaches.
