Video competition

The team behind IBO2015 will be continuing the tradition of arranging a video competition. So after your national olympiad selection round, grab your video recording gear and start recording!

The theme this year is:

IBO and me

Show us who the IBO participants from your country are, and visualize and share your ideas about IBO.

During the IBO week in July, all participants will be able to vote for their favourite video and the winning team will be eligible for a prize of € 250 for purchasing science textbooks, donated by the IBO Coordinating Centre.

The winning team will be called on stage during the closing ceremony and their video will be shown to all participants.

For further details, please read the “Frequently Asked Questions” section below.

Or download this detailed description (pdf) of the rules and deadlines.

What should the video show?

The topic this year is: IBO and me

The video should focus on your team's vision about the International Biology Olympiad. We are looking for creative and innovative ideas. You can always be humorous; after all you want your ideas to be watched.

You can possibly:

  • show how parts of the National Biology Olympiad are carried out in your country;
  • show how your national team prepares for the International Biology Olympiad.

(You can look at the previous years films on the IBO website: Photo & video)

What is the maximum duration of the video?

The video cannot last more than 4 minutes.

What language should I use in the video?

English (or with English subtitles, see universalsubtitles.org)

What is the deadline for submitting a video?

July 7, 2015

Your video must be available on-line (on YouTube) before 1 July 2015. Please submit the link (URL) of your video to IBO webmaster: gerard.cobut@naturalsciences.be and IBO2015@au.dk.

Does the winner get a prize?

The winning team will be eligible for a prize of € 250 for purchasing science textbooks, donated by the IBO Coordinating Center.

The winning team will be called on stage during closing ceremony and the film will be presented.

If the corresponding filmmakers were competitors in the National Olympiad but not selected for the IBO team, the prize will be given to the delegation. The decision of prize distribution will be up to the delegation coordinator.

Who decides who wins?

  • First round: before IBO 2015, the coordinators of the participating countries will select five films according to the competition aims (cf. 1).
  • During the IBO week, the students will select the winning film from those five.

Jury decision is final. Only one film per country is accepted. If there are less than 3 participant videos, the prize will not be awarded.

Are there any copyright issues I should be aware of?

Participants in the video competition transfer the copyright of their film to IBO, allowing the film to be used for promotional purposes for National and International Biology Olympiads.

Please make sure that submitted videos do not infringe other's copyrights, see: www.youtube.com/t/howto_copyright

What are the technical requirements for the video?

Please make sure your film can be viewed on full screen: see compression guidelines on www.vimeo.com/help/compression.

The name of your country has to be mentioned in the beginning of the film.

Your team coordinator should bring a copy of the film to IBO 2015 in Aarhus, Denmark (please use a common/classic format).
