Animal learning and cognition

The ability to learn enables animals to adapt to a variety of environments. In addition to their natural behavioural repertoire, domestic animals must learn numerous other things to survive around humans.

The better we understand how animals learn and what their cognitive abilities are, the easier and more productive our interaction with them will be.

In this session you may learn how horse training techniques can improve training of animals in general and, in addition, help behaviour scientists conduct their experiments. You will also hear about ways to ease animals’ adaption to their domestic environment.

For instance, can calves learn to find food using colours? Do goats like us better when we look happy? Will light during incubation and noise around hatching affect chicks? Is it true that also fish benefit from environmental enrichment? These are just a few of the interesting topics in this session. So join us and improve your own learning and cognition.
