David Beratan received his B.S. in Chemistry from Duke University and Ph.D. in Chemistry from the California Institute of Technology.   After post-doctoral and staff positions at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, he was a Professor of Chemistry at the University of Pittsburgh; he is now the R.J. Reynolds Professor of Chemistry and Professor of Biochemistry and of Physics at Duke.
