Juan Liu

Juan Liu is an Associate Professor in College of Environmental Sciences and Engineering (CESE) at Peking University (PKU), China. She received her Ph.D. in Geochemistry at Virginia Tech, USA. From 2010 to 2013, Dr. Liu worked as a staff scientist in Geochemistry group at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), USA. She joined the faculty of CESE at PKU in 2013. The research in her group has focused on the fundamental understanding of electrical interplay between microorganisms and minerals, as well as related biogeochemical processes on Earth and beyond.

Liu's current research is focused on three broad areas: (1) effects of mineral properties and reactivities on microbial extracellular electron transfer; (2) biogeochemical cycling of nutrients driven by mineral-microbe interactions; (3) biomineralization by iron-oxidizing bacteria and transformation pathways of biogenic iron-containing minerals.

Liu works as Associate Editor of Geochimica et Cosmochimica Acta and Mineralogical Magazine, as well as Executive Editor of Geochemical Perspectives Letters.
