Downtown Aarhus – easy-going style and liveability
There’s lots to do and see in downtown Aarhus – and all within easy walking distance. One of the most popular areas is ‘Vadestedet’, wherecafés, restaurants and shops line the Aarhus River – a great place for a meal and people-watching.
Another must-see is the Latin Quarter, the oldest part of the historic downtown, with quirky shops, inventive restaurants and narrow cobbelstone streets. This is the place for fashion, crafts, food and Danish design you won’t find on the high street.
Within the past few years, a new part of town, Aarhus Ø, has seen the light of day on the harbour waterfront, and this exciting district is rapidly expanding.
An active city by the sea
Aarhus is a waterfront city surrounded by ancient beech forests – all within walking distance of the city centre. In the heart of the city, you will find parks and green oases everywhere - perfect spots for quiet relaxation.The greenhouses in the Botanical Garden, Marselisborg Memorial Park, the University Park andthe Town Hall Park are just a few of the great city oases which are definitely worth a visit, and where you’ll meet the locals relaxing as well.
There’s easy access to bike paths, running paths, outdoor gyms, and even water sports close to downtown. During the summer, take a dip in the clean waters of the bay – the Harbour Bath, Ballehage, Den Permanente, the marinas and the swimming lane in the sea north of Aarhus Ø are all easily accessible.
Aarhus –a Michelin city
Aarhus is paradise for foodies. With four Michelin restaurants, Aarhus is a world-class gastronomic destination. And food is not the only attraction recognised in the Michelin Guide, which gives Aarhus two stars. The guide also awards stars to exceptional attractions, churches and hotels – and Aarhus has an impressive collection of stars in these categories as well. The Old Town, Denmark’s most beautiful open-air historical museum, has three stars, andARoS Art Museum and Moesgaard Museum each have two.
