Tony de Fougerolles

Antonin (Tony) de Fougerolles is a biotech executive with nearly 30 years of R&D experience. He has advanced three major drug modalities to market: mRNA, RNAi, and single-domain antibodies.

As founding CSO of Moderna (2011–2013), he pioneered modified mRNA and LNP delivery technologies. This work underpinned the Moderna and Pfizer/BioNTech COVID-19 vaccines and early DARPA pandemic programs.

At Alnylam (2003–2010), he served as VP Research, developing foundational LNP delivery for RNAi therapeutics. His Alnylam work led to patisiran and the invention of the approved PCSK9 inhibitor inclisiran.

He later served as CSO of Tolerx (2010–2011) focusing on antibody-based immuno-oncology therapies.

As CSO of Ablynx (2013–2017), he advanced caplacizumab to approval and expanded the Nanobody pipeline. Ablynx subsequently reached broad pharma partnerships and was acquired by Sanofi for $4.8 billion.

Most recently, he served as CEO of Evox Therapeutics (2017–2024), scaling exosome-based genetic delivery. At Evox, he built the team from under 6 people and secured $150M in high-profile equity financing.

Across his career, Tony has contributed to multiple Nasdaq IPOs and secured over $80M in research grants.

He has authored over 65 scientific publications and holds 120 issued U.S. patents.

He chairs and serves on seven private and public corporate boards across the US, UK, Europe, and Australia.

Tony holds a Ph.D. in Immunology from Harvard University and completed postdoctoral training at Cambridge.
