Sustainability on the agenda

Rethinking impact is also our vision when it comes to sustainability and sustainable solutions. Our approach will be holistic by making sustainability and the UN SDGs an integrated part of the conference. Our aim is to think sustainably when it comes to content, format and possibilities concerning the scientific programme and when it comes to logistics and conducting the event itself.

In collaboration with ECREA, we are interested in looking into available sustainable solutions such as streaming of selected parts of the programme, initiatives ensuring that junior/low-income/soft-currency scholars can attend the conference physically or virtually. Also emphasising accessibility and inclusiveness throughout Europe and beyond with options to take part and contribute with online presentations, through streaming, virtual meetings etc. during the conference. In terms of the theme and the organisation of the conference, we strive to share knowlegde and make an impact beyond the conference itself.

Hosting a sustainable event in Aarhus is part of the city’s DNA. 73% of all hotels in the city center hold an official eco-certification. The city’s convention venues are also certified, and when in the city, everything is within easy walking distance. Shuttles from the airport to the city center can be organized and the university is reachable within walking distance from the city center, alternatively by bike or a short ride with the electric lightrail. Within the municipality, university, convention bureau and among local suppliers, sustainability is increasingly on the agenda - contributing to rethinking the ways meetings are organised and conducted - a process constantly evolving.

In 2019 a strategic partnership was formed between VisitAarhus, Aarhus University, Aarhus Events and Worldperfect – in great collaboration with the Climate Department of the City of Aarhus and local businesses from the tourism sector in Aarhus. The common goal is to make events more sustainable and constantly develop the city when it comes to sustainability.
