I am a philosopher with interest in Philosophy of Mind and AI. I am currently a postdoctor at Umeå University, Sweden where I am part of a research team funded by WASP (Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program), researching explainable AI and ways to improve explanations given to human users and developers. My main interests lie in exploring how philosophical theories of embodied and extended cognition, as well as enactivism, may provide aid and insights to computer science and AI development.

Abstract

Robots and digital agents find their way in an increasing number of areas in our everyday lives. In this paper we will be looking at the history and impact of digital companions and coaching devices on our health and lifestyle. We will explore how a growing entanglement with devices that quantify our lives may reduce or invalidate the user's personal experiences and preferences. We propose that the kind of bond that is being formed is one that feels nurturing and that the user can trust, in order to preserve personal values and autonomy.
