The seminar will open with a review of “Herbage Seed Production in a Nordic Perspective” by Trygve Aamlid, NIBIO, Norway, who has participated in the Nordic seminars since 1986. While seed yield is one important aspect in herbage seed production, seed quality is also extremely important in this industry. Sven-Olof Bernhoff, the former CEO of Skånefrö AB in Sweden will give a presentation titled “Improving Seed Quality”.
Herbage species are often primarily bred with focus on their vegetative growth and other end-use traits, but for the seed grower the seed yield potential is of utmost importance. “Breeding for Higher Seed Yieldsin Perennial Ryegrass” will be discussed by Amanda Ama Amissah & Rémi Ollivier, Aarhus University, Denmark. A similar presentation on breeding for seed yield in red clover will by delivered by Max Söderholm from Lantmännen in Sweden.
Scandinavian countries have regulations for crop production in order to protect the environment. René Gislum, Aarhus University, Denmark will introduce “The Danish Nitrogen Regulation”.
