A visit to the Old Town

On Thursday afternoon it will be possible to spend a couple of hours in "Den Gamle By" ("The Old Town") which is a journey through the history of Denmark.

We will walk from Navitas after lunch the short distance (2 km) to "Den Gamle By", where you can explore the different periods of time at your own pace:

  • 1600-1900 The Old Market Town: Visit a Danish town in Hans Christian Andersen's time - and earlier
  • 1900-1927 The Modern Era: In the 1920s, the town became modern with pavements, street lamps, public telephones and colour ads everywhere.
  • 1950-1974 Welfare and broad-mindedness: An era famous for its broad-mindedness, the women’s movement and experimentation with new forms of living, although the majority of people lived exactly as they had always done.
  • 2000-2014 Our time: Our time at a museum. The 2014 street is a pedestrian street with shops and a shopping centre
  • Aarhus Story: the complete museum story about the city’s history from the Viking Age to the present time
