Tofteskov at Lille Vildmose

Lille Vildmose contains more than half of Denmark's total raised bog area. A large part of the bog is almost untouched, and in recent years, extensive water level increases have been used to restore the more disturbed parts. The clearing of trees and shrubs on the bog provides light for both plants and animals, and to create dynamics and keep regrowth down, red deer and moose have been introduced.

Unique grazing forests along the bog feature large amounts of dead wood and alternate between swampy and dry habitats. Denmark’s largest population of wild boar lives in Tofte Forest and Bog. Rare birds of prey, including breeding golden eagles and white-tailed eagles, can be seen from trails and birdwatching towers. More than 10,000 plant and animal species have been recorded in the area.

Sturdy footwear and a pair of binoculars are good things to bring along for the trip.
