NaturRetur - Get a taste of how harsh winter conditions were for pre-historic Danish hunter-gatherers

Biogeographers often discuss about the effect ancient hunter-gatherers had on fauna and flora. How about having a bit of a hands-on experience on the process from the point of view of the causal agents themselves? This trip is planned to give the participants and also their children a taste of the life these people may have experienced in the middle of the Scandinavian winter.

The trip is taking place in a ca. 10 km2 forest area by the sea shore in the vicinity of the city of Aarhus. We will first collect as much food as we can found in the forest (mostly mushrooms, depending on the weather there may be some plant food as well). Then we will head to the sea shore, build a camp site and prepare the food we found on a camp fire. In case we have not gathered quite enough stuff we will season the meal with abundant reserves from the autumn harvest so that nobody will be left hungry. The menu is all vegetarian. In a small simulation of the effect later global biogeographical upheavals had on European cuisine, we'll enjoy some hot chocolate for dessert.

For the more adventurous participants, there will be an opportunity to go to drop in the ocean, possibly also looking for blue mussels for a snack. There will be a self-built original Nordic sauna tent so that the brave swimmers will have it nice and cozy afterwards.

It is essential to have some warm clothing with you. Depending on the weather, and in case the sea is too rough the swimming opportunity and the sauna may need to be cancelled.

The minimum number of participants is 20 and only the 30 first to sign up will fit in.
