Post-conference tour to Jelling

Post-conference excursion to Jelling (Sunday 24 May, 8:00–17:00):

The site of Jelling is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most impressive Viking sites in the Nordic countries: Denmark’s two largest grave mounds and two rune stones erected in the eighth century by the kings Gorm the Old and Harald Bluetooth. The site was made into a monumental heritage site after new excavations 2007-2012 revealed the large stone ship of King Gorms burial site and the palisade surrounding the entire area.

This full-day excursion will include a tour of the site of Jelling and the associated museum (with an introductory presentation and a visit of the exhibition). It also includes a visit to Vejle Museum, which has among other things the Haraldskær Woman, one of the best preserved bog bodies in the world.

The tour begins in Aarhus at 8.00 in reserved bus that will bring you back to Aarhus round 17.00 after the visits and a lunch at a local country inn. Attendees should register for this excursion when registrering for the conference. There is a limit of 70 participants. Price: 90 GBP
