Change the Business – Change the world

The CDIO Academy at Aarhus University invites you to participate in our innovation challenge with the theme CHANGE

Together with students from around the world you are invited to participate in a case challenge with the steps of:

Conceiving, Innovating, Designing, and Operating

The cases focus on "Innovation in Clean Water & Sanitation in the world",  as proposed by the UN Sustainable Development of the World:

Goal 6 – Clean Water & Sanitation


The CDIO challenge takes place during the CDIO conference at Aarhus University, Denmark, from 24 June 2019-27 June 2019 – starting with online teamwork on 19 May 2019.

  • Online innovation brainstorming in teams, based on case theme challenge.
  • The students are guided in the use of online idea generation tools to facilitate their teamwork as needed.

Conceiving: Focal Idea Selection – online teamwork

  • Online Idea Selection. Finding the one Idea to work with in the physical case challenge at Aarhus University.

  • 16.00: Registration for the CDIO Academy innovation challenge
  • 17.30: Welcoming and practical information 
  • 18.00–20.00: Reception and welcome at Navitas

Designing, implementing, and operating – physically at AU 

  • Students visit the case businesses to explain, align, and confirm the focal idea.
  • ‘Lunch on the street’
  • 13.00 -16.00:  Case challenge work at AU supported by physical facilities.
  • 16.00 -18.00:  Status pitch, questions, and feedforward
  • Work dinner and a social event about management facilitated by engineer students

Communication: Final Pitch – physically at AU 

  • 09.00–12.00: Final casework & prepare pitch
  • 12.00–13.00: Lunch break (approx.)
  • Approx. 13.00: Final pitch for companies, Aarhus University board members, and other interested parties.
  • Evaluation of solution, progress, and pitch.
  • Prize for the winning team and diploma for all.
