Impact Tours

As a part of the cultural and social program of ECREA 2022, we invite researchers and scholars to sign up for ‘Impact Tours’. The tours are arranged and hosted by the Department of Media and Journalism Studies at Aarhus University in collaboration with partners in the city of Aarhus. 

Financial support is gratefully acknowledged from the School of Communication and Culture. 

DMJX (Danish School of Media and Journalism): Experience Pipilotti Rist artwork, the new Danish School of Media and Journalism and an exhibition of photojournalist student work. 

The Danish School of Media and Journalism (DMJX) is the national home for the education of Danish journalists with a wide network of contacts to the media and cultural industries. It recently moved to a new signature building at Katrinebjerg campus. During the impact tour, participants can experience the light installation in the foyer made by Pipilotti Rist for this location and see a photojournalism exhibition by DMJX students during a public event. 

DOKK1: Impact from Children's Perspective 

DOKK1 houses the main public library in Aarhus, the local citizen service centre and facilitates cultural learning and exchanges across generations of citizens in Aarhus with society and media institutions. It is a playful public building with children’s point of view represented and in this frame Associate Professor Stine Liv Johansen (AU) will host a public debate with research and industry stakeholders on representing children’s voices in a digital and public context. 

KØN – Gender Museum Denmark: Conversations about Gender and Communication Research 

The Gender Museum Denmark is the first of its kind in the country. KØN (previously, the Womens’ Museum) showcases the history of feminist activism, the public codes of genders, and a current exhibition on Astrid Lindgren as a public figure of women’s and children’s democratic rights. The museum will open its doors for public podcast conversations with guests hosted by Ph.D. and representative Valentyna Shapovalova, from the ECREA section Gender, Sexuality and Communication. 

Filmby Aarhus: Look into the future of the film, media, and gaming industry 

Filmby Aarhus is located near the harbour and is the centre of creative development in the media industry. With more than 100 companies gathered in Filmby Aarhus, the area offers creative media professionals a diverse and rich environment of exchange and inspiration for new formats in film, games, and media content. Explore this specific business model, and the studios for AR and VR technologies.  

Constructive institute: Journalism for Tomorrow 

Constructive Institute is an independent centre founded as a response to the increasing tabloidization and negativity bias of the news media today. It is working on new approaches to solutions-oriented innovation in the news, e.g. through an annual fellowship programme to have impact on the news industry. 

CAVI (Center for Advanced Visualisation and Interaction): Experience Innovative Interaction Design 

The Centre for Advanced Visualisation and Interaction (CAVI) is a research laboratory for different simulation and virtual modelling techniques. CAVI cooperates with researchers and external partners, e.g. schools and design agencies, to investigate the current and future impact of digital technologies on our perception of the world.  

The Kitchen: A Place for Innovation and Entrepreneurship within the Field of Education and Research. 

The Kitchen is home to the entrepreneurial community in Aarhus and serves as the startup hub of Aarhus University. The Kitchen offers a place for entrepreneurs and innovators to launch their business ideas through networking, consulting and mentoring offers. Explore The Kitchen concept to rethink impact of research and education through entrepreneurship and cross-sectoral collaborations. 

The People's University presenting: The Nordic World - The Happiest People on Earth 

What is it about the Nordic World and Happiness? Professor Christian Bjørnskov host a discussion about the social trust and the relation to Happiness in the Nordics based on the research presented in the Nordic World book series. The Impact tour is arranged by Folkeuniveristet (The People’s University) who strives to make knowledge accessible and easily approachable to everyone.

East of Eden: Rethinking public service TV drama - the remarkable case of Borgen 

Øst for Paradis (East of Eden named after the Elia Kazan’s movie East of Eden, 1954, based on John Steinbeck's novel of the same name) is an important local arthouse cinema in Aarhus at the centre of the city. For this Impact Tour we invite our guests to this marvellous location for a talk and discussion between AU Associate Professor Jakob Isak Nielsen and guest about the Danish TV Drama Borgen which recently presented a season four in a collaboration between the Danish Broadcasting Corporation (DR) and Netflix. 

All Impact Tours take place Friday evening, 21 October 2022, between 17.30-19.30. Participants must wear their ECREA batch during the Impact tours.

The Impact Tours are free to attend but seats are limited and registration is required. If an Impact Tour cannot be seen during registration, it is because there are no more available seats.
